As your candidate for New York State Assembly District 52, I am deeply committed to ensuring that our justice system works fairly for everyone in our Brooklyn communities-Brooklyn Heights, Downtown Brooklyn, Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill, Carroll Gardens, and beyond. Families, renters, small business owners, working people, and everyday New Yorkers deserve courts that uphold the rule of law, respect constitutional rights, and deliver justice based on facts-not errors, bias, or abuse of power.
Too often, New Yorkers face real harm when judges issue rulings that defy basic logic, ignore evidence, or violate fundamental protections. These aren't isolated mistakes-they erode public trust, cause devastating financial and personal losses, and disproportionately affect those without the resources to fight back endlessly.
Examples from our own courts have shown serious problems:
Rulings that ignore basic mathematics (such as claiming 165 divided by 2 equals the same result as 165 divided by 3), leading to families losing their life savings.
Decisions that rewrite simple facts of time and sequence (declaring one date legally comes after a later one), costing property owners millions and threatening homeownership in our neighborhoods.
Judges refusing to allow court reporters and transcripts, denying litigants a proper record of proceedings-as guaranteed by the New York State Constitution-and blocking meaningful appeals.
These failures aren't just technical-they destroy lives, deepen inequality, and undermine faith in our institutions. In a progressive district like ours, where we value fairness, due process, equity, and access to justice, we cannot tolerate a system that lets powerful errors go unchecked or allows judges to operate without meaningful oversight.
When elected to the Assembly, I will fight for practical, common-sense reforms to restore accountability and protect New Yorkers' rights, including:
Together, we can make our courts work better for everyone.
- Strengthening mechanisms for judicial oversight and discipline to ensure judges who repeatedly issue rulings unsupported by evidence or that violate constitutional protections face swift, transparent review.
- Requiring courts to maintain full, accurate records of proceedings (including mandatory court reporters or reliable electronic recording) so every litigant has the documentation needed for fair appeals.
- Promoting greater transparency in judicial decision-making to prevent abuses of discretion and build public confidence. Supporting measures that make the justice system more accessible and equitable, especially for working families, renters, and small business owners who can't afford prolonged legal battles.
- This isn't about attacking judges-it's about holding the system accountable so it serves the people it was created to protect. In District 52, we believe in justice that is fair, fact-based, and responsive to our communities' needs.
Join me in pushing for judicial accountability that upholds fairness, protects rights, and restores trust in the rule of law.
