Protecting Bodily Autonomy and Medical Freedom for All New Yorkers

As your candidate for New York State Assembly District 52, I am committed to defending every person's fundamental right to make their own medical decisions-free from coercion by government, employers, or corporations.

No New Yorker should ever be required to undergo a specific medical procedure, treatment, or intervention as a condition of employment, accessing essential services, or participating in our public life. Personal health choices-including decisions about one's own body and, where applicable, the care of minor children-must remain private matters between individuals, their families, and their trusted healthcare providers, not dictated by outside authorities.

In our diverse, working-class neighborhoods across Brooklyn Heights, Downtown Brooklyn, Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill, Carroll Gardens, and beyond, we've seen how such requirements can disproportionately burden everyday families, low-wage workers, and those already facing barriers to opportunity. When access to jobs, housing, education, or public accommodations is tied to personal medical decisions, it invades privacy, erodes individual liberty, and undermines trust in our institutions.

New York has long stood as a leader in protecting personal freedoms and individual rights. We must extend that same commitment to ensuring no one faces discrimination or exclusion for exercising informed consent over their own health.

When elected to the Assembly, I will introduce and champion legislation to:

Prohibit any mandate requiring specific medical interventions, treatments, or procedures as a condition of employment, public accommodation, housing, education, or government benefits. Establish clear violations-subject to civil and criminal penalties-for employers, businesses, or public entities that coerce health choices in ways that infringe on bodily autonomy and informed consent. Strengthen safeguards for medical privacy so that personal health decisions stay protected from external pressure. This is about rejecting overreach and ensuring that health policies respect individual rights, fairness, and consent-without undermining legitimate public health efforts. In a progressive district like ours, full of families, professionals, students, and community members who value liberty and equity, we can set a national example by prioritizing personal freedom alongside community well-being.

Together, let's keep New York a champion for bodily autonomy and true medical freedom. Join me in advancing policies that protect everyone's right to choose what's best for their body and their family.
